Gray Printers Museum

On the North West Trail

Nestling behind a unique Georgian façade on Strabane's Main Street this remarkable National Trust property now houses two excellent visitor facilities- one operated by the National Trust itself, the other operated by Strabane District Council.

Strabane District Council Museum
The Council facility is open all year round and incorporates a modern museum and gallery space. The museum aims to bring local history to life and features rotating internal and national touring exhibitions along with events and displays of local arts and crafts

The museum examines a variety of themes, including the railways, famous connections and the canal, providing the visitor with the opportunity to glimpse again the colour and character associated with Strabane in years gone by.

Open:
Tuesday–Saturday (except Public Holidays) 11am – 1pm & 1.30pm – 5pm
Free Access To Strabane District Council Exhibits.

The National Trust Exhibition
To the rear of the council facility, situated in a beautiful little garden courtyard, lies the "Power of Print" exhibit operated by the National Trust.

Behind its elegant façade is the fascinating story of ink, galleys, presses and emigration, as this is where John Dunlap, printer of the American Declaration of Independence, and James Wilson, grandfather of President Woodrow Wilson, are said to have learned their trade.

On display is a fascinating collection of 19th century presses, the most impressive being the American Columbian press, invented by George Clymer of Philadelphia, with a cast iron American Eagle positioned on the cross-rod acting as a counterweight.
